WELCOME BACK!!!!!!!

We are back to school again with our beautiful views and exciting outlooks for a new year. We have changed locations and in the building and are enjoying the lab space as well as open work space in the room.

Our fifth graders have kicked off their year working on Plants and the Environment and we have begun comparing different types of plants and will be working on plant parts over the next few weeks. Our school grounds provide us with a wonderful opportunity to see our plants in action before the weather turns too cold as well so we will be out and about to see nature in action.

The sixth grade have jumped right into Ecology where we have begun our study of our relationship with our environment around us in the new classroom as well as how we as a school influence the animal and plant populations around the school. We too will be heading out and about on campus to examine what we do, good and bad, to the environment we reside in.

We are all excited about kicking off this new school year and hope to see everyone soon!
Remember there will be questions to discuss posted here so check back often!

My first response question of the year is how might the growing population of people in Ridgefield influence the animal and plant populations here?

it might effect the animals and food supply that we have now

The more people that come in to Ridgefield, the less room for animals and for plants to grow. The more houses that are built, the less spaces for animal to live.
Also a lot of trees are being cut down for roads to be built and repaired.

well, the more people that come in to ridgefield, theres less room for animals and plants to grow. also were taking away a lot of animals homes by cutting down trees.

The growing population in Ridgefield could effect animals in many ways. There would be less fish in local lakes do to more fishing and animals homes could be destroyed by the houses that people are building to live in.It effects plant when we cut down trees to make more space for stores and houses. But it could also help plant life grow. If people in new houses decide to plant flowers or grass there would be more plants.

I think the growing population of Ridgefield will have a negative affect on the animal and plant population. Ridgefield has a lot of foliage and when you make new buildings it diminishes the plants and trees. Some of that vegetation was used to feed animals which makes it harder for the animals to survive. Also if more people move to Ridgefeild then more people will have to be fed which means the local supermarkets will need more meat which means more animals will be killed. Usually the more people in a town the less wildlife. Even if people have gardens or pets most families eat more meat then pets they have and kill more plants in the making of their house than they have in their garden.

More people in Ridgefield is good and bad for the environment for many reasons. The more people in Ridgefield, the more houses that have to be built, which means less room for trees, animals, and plants. People are cutting down trees to make room for houses and roads. That takes away the homes of many animals. More people means more fishing and as a result, less fish. But in some ways . But it can also improve the environment. People plant flower and vegetable gardens. Flowers breath out oxygen, so more oxygen for humans, and vegetables are food, so it increases our food supply. In some way it is good to cut down trees, but not in big patches. If the trees are too crowded together, they don't grow as well.

I think it may have a bad affect on the environment because more people almost always means more houses. Which will cause for there to be less room for plants and animals. Animals will die out because there will be no room for them to hunt. Plants will die out because there will be no more room for them to grow more people could fish in our local lakes causing fish populations to decrease dramatically. When people have picnics at our local lakes there could be more and more trash left at the lakes. The lake ecosystem might not be able to handle it and have a serious affect that could wipe out most of the fish in the lake. I think having many more people in Ridgefield is bad

Well, lots of the food we eat come from plants. The plants might lose population. Some people have pets like bunnies and birds and the more the human population increases the more chance that there will be less animals.

I think the growing population of people will affect these things because people are polluting. I know this for a fact because as I passed a grocery store I saw cans and bottles just dumped in bushes. Also the food supply is going down, so it would help if we planted gardens or something like that. Also when we spray plants or grass so deer can't eat it, it can not only hurt the plants, but can poison the animals too. Also, not much natural land is being left because new houses are being built. The less land there is the less chance of animals surviving.

The more people and family's that come into ridgefield there is a less chance animals can survive. We use the trees we have to make new homes and furniture which creates less space for the animals to live. The more we pollute the more animals die.

i think that if the population of Ridgefield grows more houses will be built crowding the animals' space, eventually pushing the animal' out of their natural habitat.

Because more people are coming into Ridgefield, the wild animals lose habitat as more and more people cut trees to make space for their houses. There are domestic animals like dogs and cats that live in those houses. Wild plants die because people weed them and use weed killer on their lawns. People also plant domestic plants like flowers and grass and vegetables.

i think that the growing population in ridgefield will affect the plants and animals by taking up more room and taking over habitats and destroying plants that animals also eat. that will starve more animals and make the animal population smaller and with more hunger it takes more plants thus less plants.

I think that the growing population in Ridgefield influences the animal and plant population by decreasing their living space and polluting their environment with extra wastes and gasses.

The more people come to ridgefield thye less room for animals. we are building houses in thier homes and forcing them to leave thier natural habitats. We are cutting down trees which they use for shelter and making them unprotected.Cutting down trees also cuts of the oxygen and making it harder to live were they have always been comfortable. In the end i thionk its a bad thing and forcing animals out of ridgefield.

In some ways it could help the population greatly, such as planting more flowers in our gardens, allowing the bees to get more nectar, pollinate, and allowing more plants to grow. If we plant the right plants, (not in gardens of course) that could allow quite a few animals to eat them. we could plant parks and such that are open up to the wild, but with the increasing population if the town that might not work for the parks would grow much smaller. If each citizen could donate part of their back woods or, just part of their neighborhood even, we allow not just wild life to flourish, but us too. The reason for all of this, is because of the growing population in this town. More houses means more trees cut down, which means more homes and food lost, which could eventually mean a species is wipes out, which could then lead to another with the same fate, and then another, and another, and another etc. Until... until the same thing happens to us.

I think that the animals natural habbitat will get smaller and smaller as more people come in. More houses would need to be built, so more space is being taking up. It is posssible that some animals might die, becuase they have no homes and the food supply might run out. If certain animals die thane other animals might lose food because they eat the small animals. The number of plants would go down. They would need to be cut down to make room for biulding and landscaping. Trees would be cut down as well. That is what gives us oxygen, so tecnically we are taking away our own oxygen.

We will intrude on their habitats and we will unfortunately drive some of them away, resulting in a drop in food supply because of the decrease in seeds spreading.

If Ridgefield got over populated the food chain might get messed up by us running out of meet. there might be to many farmers then crops will go to waste. We will need more houses witch means less trees. That could leave us with no paper or fresh air. More pollution would come from more cars. Local stores
would run out of food faster.
